Below: eight shows worth your time with their regional caveats stated, what arrived in July, and — the part no other list gives you — four shows that look like they are on Netflix but are not, because their Netflix presence is Japan-only.

The top picks, and why

Sparks of Tomorrow is the headline. Kyoto Animation adapting a novel from its own imprint, a worldwide Netflix exclusive, and — rare for this platform — zero international lag: episodes land the same day as Japan’s broadcast. Jujutsu Kaisen became a much easier recommendation in late July, when season 3 rolled out worldwide with dubs — before that, Netflix coverage of the series was patchy per country. Dandadan carries both seasons in most markets including Japan, and Daemons of the Shadow Realm gives Netflix its second exclusive of the season, from Hiromu Arakawa of Fullmetal Alchemist fame, animated by Bones Film.

The fine print most lists skip

One Piece is on Netflix and up to date — six days late. Crunchyroll simulcasts Elbaf Arc episodes on Sundays; Netflix carries the same episodes the following Saturday in select regions. On Netflix you are always one week behind the conversation.

Frieren is the sharpest split on this list: season 1 sits on Netflix in most markets, but season 2 is a Crunchyroll exclusive internationally — Netflix US took about eighteen months to add season 1, and no season 2 date exists. • The Elusive Samurai S2 — Crunchyroll and Prime Video internationally; Netflix Japan only, from July 21
• The Ghost in the Shell (2026) — Prime Video exclusive in 240+ countries; Netflix appears only in Japan’s domestic lineup
• Bleach TYBW: The Calamity — Hulu in the US, Disney+ internationally; Netflix carries it in Japan from July 26
