Where to Watch Sparks of Tomorrow (2026)

Short answer: Sparks of Tomorrow streams on Netflix, worldwide and exclusively, the same day as Japan. No staggered international rollout, no waiting — which is worth pausing on, because Netflix is usually the platform anime fans complain arrives late. There is a second unusual detail: Netflix is the only streaming service carrying it anywhere, Japan included. The rare anime with no international lag

Most of what we cover here involves a gap: a show reaches one country weeks or months before another, or sits on a service that stops at a border. Sparks of Tomorrow is the opposite. Netflix carries it worldwide, exclusively, and new episodes arrive the same day as the Japanese broadcast — Anime News Network reported the exclusive Netflix debut back in January, and Netflix’s own media centre lists it under Only on Netflix.

That is worth stating plainly because the same platform behaves very differently elsewhere. Even Japan only gets Netflix

Here is the detail almost no listing mentions. In Japan the series airs on ABC TV, TOKYO MX, TV Aichi and BS11 from July 5, 2026 — and for streaming, the official site lists Netflix and nothing else.

That is genuinely unusual. Nearly every title we track has a broad Japanese streaming spread — U-NEXT, dAnime Store, ABEMA, DMM TV and more, often five to ten services. Here there is one. Kyoto Animation adapting its own novel

Kyoto Animation produced it, with Toshimi Ota directing. The source is a novel by Yuki Hiroshi published under KA Esma Bunko — KyoAni’s own light-novel imprint, so the studio is adapting a book from its own publishing arm rather than licensing someone else’s.

The setting is an alternate early-20th-century Kyoto where steam power became dominant and electricity never took hold; the story follows a young man whose notebook of electrical inventions resurfaces years after his brother went to war. Yuma Uchida leads the cast. Critics have been warm — CBR called it the summer’s sleeper hit, and it screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival ahead of release.
